Newbigin Community Trust Coronavirus Response

**Updated 23/04/2020**

Over the past four weeks Newbigin Community trust has endeavoured to support our community in the following ways.

We do deliveries of food parcels and hot meal three times a week as a way of keeping contact with our families, checking on the wellbeing of vulnerable children/adults and giving the children craft and cooking activities to keep them busy. Since 19th March we have delivered 281 food parcels275 hot meals238 craft packs and 14 cooking challenges. We have also distributed 36 Easter eggs to the children that normally attend our Newbigin Kids Club to check on their safety and connect their parents with our food delivery programme. We have also been offering an emergency advocacy service by phone, where we help individuals with problems regarding their housing/universal credit/EU settlement etc.  Since 14th April we have re-opened our emergency face to face advocacy service for complex issues and have seen 13 appointments where clients remain 2.5m apart in our outdoor office space.(Yurt)

Overall, we have reached 245 individuals (108 adults, 137 children) from 85 households in Winson Green/Handsworth/Lozells area. We aim to try and maintain visits to the same regular households going forward and lockdown starts to ease up we will work on re-integration and social support strategies for the most isolated and vulnerable members of our community.

If you would like to help support our largely unfunded effort, please feel free to donate through the following link: https://newbigintrust.uk/home/donate/

We are grateful to the Heart of England Foundation who have given us some funding to deliver this vital support.
