Welcome to Newbigin Trust
Powered by the people of Winson Green.
Newbigin Community Trust is a community-led organisation rooted in the vibrant and diverse neighbourhood of Winson Green (B18). The people of Winson Green and Handsworth empower our mission to create a welcoming space where everyone feels at home. We aim to reduce isolation through connection, and to offer support and a chance for the residents of Winson Green and Handsworth to find purpose.
Driven by dynamic, creative, and flexible approaches, we are committed to living out our core values:
Giving priority the most isolated and vulnerable in our community.
Using an asset-based approach: Using what’s strong to fix what’s wrong
Building a team of staff and volunteers that reflect the community we serve.
Newbigin Community Trust works across multiple sites in Winson Green, ensuring we serve the community indiscriminately. Each hub is uniquely positioned to meet the needs of different groups in the community, creating inclusive spaces where the residents of Winson Green / Handsworth can find belonging, support and purpose to thrive.
Our projects adapt and change to meet the highly transient community of Winson Green. Our work can be described by work with Isolated or Vulnerable Adults and work with Families, Kids and Youth.
Our work with adults is based at our drop-in at Lodge Road Church Centre (B18 5BU) where we run advocacy services, a community café run by local mums and multiple social projects including but not restricted to cycling, roller-skating, Golden Ages for over 55s, music group, choir, crafts and blacksmithing to name a few.
Our families, kids and youth projects are based across our parent hubs at Benson Community School (B18 5TD) and Windsor Olympus Academy (B18 4LX) as well as our community house Newbigin House (B18 4PT). Across these sites we run the following projects: advocacy support, kids club, youth group, brightsparks SEN, roadmaps SEN parent support group, multiple parents/toddler groups, crafts and workshops, training for parents (ESOL, childcare) as well as supporting the management of an eco-hub for the local community.
We actively encourage community members to bring new ideas as we facilitate and support new projects to start up. Through an asset-based approach the residents of Winson Green together can discover, connect, and release potential in one another to use what’s strong to address what’s wrong.
The majority of our staff and volunteers live in the Winson Green area, with many starting their journey by attending groups, progressing to volunteer roles, and eventually becoming staff members.
We invite you to join us as we continue to connect with our neighbours, remove barriers, and nurture leadership—powered by the people of Winson Green.
